It's not often that you come across a profusely smoking EMD, and that on a terrain as flat as a chapati. And also its not often that we get to see back to back three EMD hauled train within a gap of few minutes on a completely electrified section. SO sit back and enjoy the back to back action of the three heavyweight SGUJ EMDs.

1) Powered by 20063 SGUJ WDP- 4,, the 1 hour late late running 12042 New Jalpaiguri (NJP)- Howrah (HWH) SHATABDI Express screams past Jaugram at flat 130 km/hr.

2) Next on the list comes the longest running HUMSAFAR of Indian Railways. Powered by 20070 SGUJ WDP- 4, the 12504 Agartala (AGTL)- Bangalore Cantt (BNC) HUMSAFAR speeds away running late by almost 3 hours.

3) Finally after getting overtaken by the previous two trains, the 10 hours late running 12346 Guwahati (GHY)- Howrah (HWH) SARAIGHAT Superfast races down the down main tracks with 40187 SGUJ WDP- 4D. Just as the loco passed me, the driver let all guns blazing, and starts accelerating even further. The outcome?? The EMD starts smoking crazily, and the train literally disappears within the loco's smoke.

The SHATABDI, which is the only Diesel hauled train in India to run at 130 km/hr, is the fastest connecting train between North Bengal and South Bengal, and covers the 566 kms journey in 8 hours flat. The closest competitors for this train are the Darjeeling Mail, and Padatik Express, but those two trains take more than 10 hours. The train has been given an extremely aggressive schedule, where it have to maintain an average speed of 70 km/hr even after covering most of the journey through stretches where MPS varies between 90- 110 km/hr with numerous PSRs and TSRs. The train follows the Howrah- Burdwan- Bolpur Shantiniketan- Rampurhat- Malda Town- Kishanganj- New Jalpaiguri route.

12504 is the second HUMSAFAR Express to hit the tracks. The train follows the Agartala- Badarpur- New Haflong- Guwahati- Kamakhya- (Via Goalpara Town)- New Bongaigaon- (Via New CoochBehar)- New Jalpaiguri- Kishanganj- Malda Town- Rampurhat- Howrah- Kharagpur- Bhadrakh- Cuttack- Bhubaneshwar- Khurdah Road- Brahmapur- Vizianagaram- Vishakapatnam- Vijayawada- Perumbur- Katpadi- Bangalore Cantt. route.

The Saraighat Express is a daily superfast train which runs between Howrah (Kolkata) and Guwahati (Assam). The train is named after the famous Battle of Saraight fought between Mughals and rulers of Assam (Ahom Kingdom) in which Mughals were defeated by the Ahoms under the great leadership of Mahavir Lachit Barphukan Commander-in-Chief.

The train follows the Howrah- Burdwan- Bolpur Shantiniketan- Rampurhat- Malda Town- Kishanganj- New Jalpaiguri- New Cooch Behar- New Alipurduar- New Bongaigaon- Guwahati route of ER/ NFR.
