When director Michael Morris talks about Bridget Jones, it’s like he’s referring to his lifelong bestie. In this episode of ReelTalk, Ben chats with Morris, about the evolution of ‘Bridge’ in his new movie, Bridget Jones: Mad about the Boy. He tells Ben how he knew the character was beloved world over, and he took pleasure in hiding ‘easter eggs’ to honor fans of the franchise.

There have been three Bridget Jones movies; Bridget Jones’ Diary (2001), Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and Bridget Jones’ Baby (2016). In Mad About the Boy, Bridget is navigating life as a single mother, following the death of husband, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and is dipping her toe in the dating pool. Her love interests include her child’s science teacher, Mr Wallaker, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor from Love Actually and young hottie Roxster, played by Leo Woodall, from The White Lotus and One Day. The movie also sees the return of favourite characters, Hugh Grant in his ‘cad era’ as Daniel Clever, Emma Thompson as Dr Rawlings and Jim Broadbent as Bridget’s dad, Colin.

Other lovable character to return include Bridget’s mates, Shazzer (Sally Phillips), Tom (James Callis) and Jude (Shirley Henderson). We also see Aussie actor Isla Fisher join the cast as Bridget’s neighbour, Rebecca.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is in Australian cinemas now.
