This is my experience as a US born trans woman seeking bottom surgery in the United States with private insurance. I was originally not going to broadcast such intimate details about myself, but in the time leading up to my decision to seek out bottom surgery, I didn't find a single video on YouTube about trans people getting surgery in the US or using their insurance. instead, almost every story was either a trans woman from somewhere else getting surgery in their home country or it's someone who opted specifically to go to Thailand for bottom surgery.

I pursued my bottom surgery with a combination of Dr. Brielle Weinstein, plastics, and Dr. Ross Everett, urology, with USF at Tampa General Hospital in Florida. To pay for my surgery, I used my private Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama insurance that I get through my employer, which as of 2025 covered HRT, top surgery, and bottom surgery for trans people. This video features segments I recorded a few weeks before, the day of, and a few weeks after surgery wherein I discuss all the details I think other trans women would find useful, including how I set up the appointments I needed, the timeline it took, the process of using insurance and the costs, the prep work I had to do leading up to the surgery, as well as the recovery process during the hospital stay and after discharge from the hospital.

The hospital staff was wonderful and I wholly recommend them to anyone considering them.
