Today, we have the brand-new edition of the SoloDallas Storm - their pedalboard-friendly edition of the famed Schaffer-Vega Diversity System preamp built into wireless receivers of the 70s & 80s by Ken Schaffer. Most famously, this is a circuit loved by Angus Young of AC/DC...he's said to have tracked Back In Black using his wireless system to get the effect of the Schaffer pre, and has recently been using the SoloDallas Schaffer Replica towers in his live rig & in the studio.

But what does it do? This new edition features a compander circuit previously overlooked by the SoloDallas team in their tower and TSR pedals - and this new version for 2019 features a refined & reworked circuit over the previous Storm pedal.

It's equally happy acting as a clean unity buffer; tone enhancer/sweetener; clean boost; dirty boost & compressor/limiter. But, it's most at home pushing humbuckers into Marshall circuitry - so today, we'll explore all of those things and unleash our inner Angus! ;-)

What do you think? A timeless circuit capable of mega tones? Or not for you? Comment below!

Guitars are a 1992 Fender Tele with a Monty's Retro Wind bridge pickup and a Hagstrom Viking with Monty's PAF pickups, recorded through a Dr Z DB4 (SM57), a Hughes & Kettner Puretone Combo (Shure 517SA) and a Cornell Romany Plus (sE R1 Ribbon)
