What's up everybody, it's AJ with www.etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the Curt Cargo Carrier on our 2018 Subaru Outback. The cargo carrier is gonna be a great way to carry even more stuff outside your vehicle. So whether you have some stuff that's maybe dirty or smelly that you won't want on the inside, you can have it on the outside. Or if you just need a little bit more room to carry some more stuff on a trip, this will give you that extra space. You can see they already got a kayak carrier on top, so you can't really put anything else up on the roof.

If you got fully load on the inside, you just need a few more things out here, this is gonna help you do that. Right away, it's made out of a black powder coat steel. So it is pretty sturdy. It's gonna hold up. Also let's go over how much space it has, 'cause all and all if you're looking for stuff to carry extra stuff on the outside of the vehicle, you wanna know how much you can actually carry.

So from inside to inside will be 46 inches of width, and then back to front, it's gonna be about 18 inches there of space on the inside. So hopefully that helps you visualize what cargo you wanna put in there when you hit the road. Sidewall something else I wanted to measure, looks like it's about 5 1/2 inches there. So this is kind of high for one of these cargo carriers but I kind of like that just because if you put cargo in there, maybe a strap comes loose it wasn't as tied down as you thought it was, it's not gonna fall right off. There's plenty here to protect it from falling but still make sure you strap everything down safely.

Speaking of straps, you got this open design all the way around the outside of the carrier. So you can easily run straps through any of these parts in the bars. So it's nice to have those tie on points wherever you need them. Now we're gonna do a ground clearance measurement. So from the ground to the bottom, looks like it's right there at 12 inches.

So that's a decent amount. There is no rise in the shank. Just be careful on those steep hills or driveways. Now the carrier can hold 500 pounds, so keep that in mind with whatever you wanna put in here to take on the road with you. Another thing to think about though is the break over point, and that's gonna be how high you can stack that cargo and open the back gate still. So I'm gonna measure that with it open where it is right now. We'll see where it hits the tape measure. It looks like it's right there at 22 inches. So if you stack stuff up to here it will make contact underneath there. You can open the back hatch still. Looking at the hitch, you can see that it's got an adapter on there so it can fit an inch and a quarter hitch, but today we have it in two inch by two inch. It's got the anti-rattle bolt right here. That's gonna keep that shake and play down. You can see you can shake the whole vehicle back and forth. Now the cargo carrier moves a little bit, but that's just gonna happen with those in the hitch. Overall, I think the car carrier is a nice edition to your Outback. Especially if you just need that little bit more space on the inside, you want stuff out here, you don't want it messing up everybody, more leg room makes everywhere happier on those trips. Or you're already jampacked, it's fully loaded, you just need to take a few more things. This is gonna be the answer. Well I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helped..
