In this video we discuss how plants feed microbes using root exudates so that the soil microbes can then supply the plant with free fertiliser (mineral nutrition). This follows the energy mineral flows within an ecosystem.

Plants capture sunlight through photosynthesis and store that energy and carbon in glucose. That energy and carbon is given to soil microbes and mycorrhizal fungi via root exudates. In exchange, the soil microbes supply the plant with minerals and nutrition, effective supply the plant with free fertiliser.
