Laguna Beach
Orange County CA
Episode 70

Laguna Beach was the Southern California epicenter of the alternative hippie culture in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1967, John Griggs and other founding members of the Brotherhood of Eternal Love relocated from Modjeska Canyon to the Woodland Drive neighborhood of Laguna Beach, which they later renamed "Dodge City". Timothy Leary lived in a beach house on Gaviota Drive.

Laguna Beach is a haven for the arts and hosts the annual ‘Pageant of the Masters’ festival which is known for its tableaux vivants or "living pictures" in which classical and contemporary works of art are recreated by real people who are made to look nearly identical to the originals through the clever application of costumes, makeup, headdresses, lighting, props, and backdrops. The Pageant of the Masters (00:41) was parodied in the Arrested Development episode "In God We Trust".

Notable current and former residents of Laguna Beach include Robert Englund, Judy Garland, Rock Hudson, Bette Midler, Mickey Rooney, Rudolph Valentino, Hobie Alter, Lefty Williams, Taylor Hawkins, Richie Sambora, John Steinbeck, Charles Wright, Buzz Aldrin and Warren Buffett.
