One of three themes featured in the exhibition, The Dirty South, is Landscape including both the natural and built environments of the American South. The sculptural piece, I looked over Jordan and what did I see; a band of angels coming after me, by artist Nathaniel Donnett is a recreation of a section of a common architectural occurrence throughout the South, the “shotgun shack.”

The piece also crosses over into the theme of spirituality, being named after a popular African-American spiritual and christian hymn, Swing Low Sweet Chariot. But also because of the use of blue light, emanating from behind the shack wall, giving an almost mystic and ethereal feel to what is generally a commonplace structure.
