I had forgotten how dangerous Acrocanthosaurus can be, especially when not trapped for taming! These things are scary no matter what gear you have! Even heavily beefed up Tek Armor is no match for an Acro's attacks, especially while enraged!

After watching Darkedge TV's video on them, I felt inspired to employ a similar method to taming these wonderful dinosaurs - using the Sivatherium to negate the knockback from their attacks and mitigate the damage they deal.

One of the things that I love about this taming process is that it's sort of a hybrid of a traditional knockout tame and a passive tame. You cannot tranquilize the Acro by shooting it, or hitting it in the head with cannonballs. This dinosaur can only be knocked out by feeding it the sedative - either narcotics or biotoxin. You can only do that when its taken enough damage to anger it, causing it to roar and open its mouth fully. That's when you have a brief chance to throw your tranquilizing agent into its mouth.

I HIGHLY recommend biotoxin, but since this is extinction, I had no choice because there are no sources of biotoxin on this map. That's fine, it's just an added challenge on a tame I've done quite a few times before.

I also recommend a trap, especially if you don't have a creature that can resist knockback, because that's where the extra challenge comes from. When you do the Acrocanthosaurus enough damage, it will shift into its shield stance. Its attacks don't do much damage, but they will send you and your dinos flying, making it hard to get in close to feed it when it roars in fury.

It's for that reason that I demonstrate both taming methods in this video - the Sivatherium and the traditional gate trap. You can also use signs, but I prefer the gates. I tried using Tek Gates to negate the damage from its shield bash attack, but that didn't work, surprisingly.
