President Donald Trump announced he will direct federal law enforcement to conduct a takeover of both Chicago and Baltimore to combat crime. Trump said it's his job to end violent crime in cities around the U.S., saying, "This isn't a political thing. I have an obligation. When 20 people are killed over the last two and a half weeks and 75 are shot with bullets." Shortly after Trump made the comments about a takeover of Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker reiterated their strong opposition to a federal takeover. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore also protested the move.
