A black EMD SD70 pulls a mixed freight away from some menacing skies on the Canadian National Freeport sub nearing Genoa, Illinois. The train went into the siding at Burlington, Illinois to wait for an eastbound CN M337 train to pass. About 15 minutes after the train ran by, heavy rain swept in.

This was a fortunate catch. I was driving west to intercept the approaching squall for some storm video. A last minute decision took me past one of the spots that I go to for shooting the CN. As I approached, I noticed the track signal was yellow. Indicating that a train was either nearby and moving away, or nearby and getting closer. If it was the former and I set up my cameras, my plan to shoot some storm video was over. But there was always a chance a train was imminent. I figured that I had about 30 minutes before the storm hit. So I set up my cameras and kept a watch on the signal. Suddenly it turned red. I scrambled out of the car, since I knew from past experience that I had only about two minutes to get the cameras rolling. Turned them all on, reset exposure and hit three record buttons. Just in time.
