Join me as I discover Shamian Island, an old British and French concession on the South China Coast in the fabulous city of Guangzhou.

This old 800m strip of land was used by world traders as a hub for their trading warehouses, consulates, places of worship and mansions. We delve into the history of not just Shamian Island but Guangzhou, also known as Canton, as a trading port.

Along the way, we'll see churches and mansions and learn about a terrible massacre that took place here in 1925 at the hands of the British and French.
