BSc student and Research Assistant Mia Wake talks about life at Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit (CRRU).

Mia is an undergraduate student currently completing a BSc in Environmental Science. She first joined CRRU as a trainee in July 2024, returning later that year and again in 2025 to undertake her undergraduate dissertation on the feeding behaviour of minke whales in the Moray Firth.

For over 30 years, CRRU has been marine conservation charity dedicated to the study, conservation and understanding of UK whales, dolphins and porpoises (cetaceans) in northeast Scotland through scientific research, environmental education and the provision of a voluntary veterinary rescue service for marine wildlife in distress.
