Описание к видео Beginner Salsa - Crossbody Lead - Week 4

Mastering the Salsa on 1 Cross Body Lead

The Cross Body Lead is one of the most iconic and fundamental moves in Salsa on 1 dancing.

What Is a Cross Body Lead?

In the Cross Body Lead (CBL), the leader opens up their frame to guide the follower from one side to the other — literally crossing the leader’s body. This move introduces the linear style of Salsa on 1, where dancers travel along a slot, unlike Cuban salsa, which tends to be more circular.

It’s a foundational movement that appears in countless salsa patterns — so mastering it early will make learning new combinations much easier.

Step-by-Step Breakdown
For Leaders:

Basic timing (Counts 1–3):
Step forward with your left foot (1), replace weight back to your right foot (2), and pivot slightly to your left while stepping to the side with your left foot (3). This opens the “door” for your partner to pass.

The cross (Counts 5–7):
As your partner walks through, guide her gently with your right hand, stepping slightly back on 5, to the side on 6, and closing on 7 to face her again.

Connection:
Keep your frame steady but relaxed. Think of leading with your body, not your arms. Your upper body opens to invite the follower through, then closes to reconnect.

For Followers:

Basic timing (Counts 1–3):
Step back with your right foot (1), step in place (2), and step forward with your left foot (3), moving toward your partner.

The cross (Counts 5–7):
Walk straight ahead on 5 and 6 as your partner opens the path, then pivot 180° to your left on 7 to face him again.

Connection:
Maintain light resistance in your frame — don’t pull or push. Allow the lead to guide your direction naturally.

Why the Cross Body Lead Matters

The Cross Body Lead is more than just a move — it’s the foundation for countless salsa patterns such as the Inside Turn, Outside Turn, and Copa. Once you master it, you’ll notice your dancing feels more fluid, connected, and musical.

It also helps leaders learn to guide with intention and followers to trust their timing and balance.
