Dialogue with Abigail Kirkman, Assistant Director and Kristin Lupfer, Project Director, SAMHSA SOAR TA Center with Policy Research Associates (PRA), Inc. on:

Maximizing Income Supports for Housing Stability

People experiencing or at risk of homelessness are asked to navigate complex systems to achieve housing stability. It becomes even more challenging for individuals who have serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders that impact their ability to work. Accessing stable income can increase housing stability, reduce the future risk of homelessness, and support people on the path to recovery. This session will discuss how the SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) model is used to increase access to the disability income benefit programs administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and how equitable integration of the SOAR model and other employment supports can be used as tools to gain and sustain housing for people with disabling conditions.
