HEBRON, Ky. (WKRC) - Tom and Brianne Shircliff welcomed baby girl Brinkley Hope on June 13. During the pandemic, no visitors were allowed at the hospital.

So, they invited Tom's parents, affectionately known as Mamaw and Papaw, over the meet their new grandchild -- Boy, were in they for a surprise!

"That's a real baby. That's a real baby!" said Martha Hall when seeing her new grandson for the first time.

"I didn't think he was a real baby, no way. Actually, he started hiccuping, and that's when my eyes got bigger. I'm like, 'He's for real! That baby is for real!'" said Hall. "Tom always wanted twins."

For nine months, Tom and Brianne had been keeping a big secret, Brinkley's twin brother: Ace Leo.

"We had a gender reveal party and it was just a girl," said Brianne. "It was really hard to make it through that long, and it's also, like, mentally preparing every time you go to visit family and friends not to slip up."

It was Tom's idea to keep the twins a secret.

"We were even being extra careful to our bracelets. Since we had two bracelets showing two babies, we would crop that out and do some editing," said Tom.

"You really -- that's a real baby. That's him. Is this a real kid here? Does anyone know this?" asked Hall in the surprise reveal video.

The couple said the reactions of their friends and family to the covert plan made it 100% worth it.

"Boy, I'll never ever get a birthday present like that again. Woo. Topped them all," said Hall.

Brianne is a thyroid cancer survivor. She miscarried at five months in 2019. The surprise twins complete their family.

"It really was a miracle that we were able to get pregnant on our own and let alone two," said Brianne.
