Ngula Ya Vutivi - General MD Shirinda (06 07 17)

Renowned Xitsonga Traditional Music giant, General MD Shirinda has died. He is the first Mutsonga in South Africa to go commercial in 1960; hence he was termed The General of all Tsonga artists. In 1984 he was inducted into the Graceland Project under the banner of Paul Simon and recorded a hit song called ‘I know what I know’ with which he toured the globe. By his admission, Paul Simon considered General M.D Shirinda as a prolific guitar player and magical in singing. Although General M.D Shirinda did not make a fortune out of Graceland, his song became an instant hit in Europe and other countries overseas.
