My son (age 4) and my daughter (age 2) like to play with trains more than any other toys. My son has been interested in making two level railways, so this is the perfect set for his current interest. We opened the box and before I could study the instructions, he easily was snapping the tracks together, matching the picture on the box. Within a few minutes we had the whole set put together. I was surprised by the sturdiness of it. The track set is larger than our train table when fully assembled according to the directions, yet the kids had part of the loops hanging off the train table with three trains running the tracks, and the track stayed together. I am seriously impressed by that, because I have put miles of tracks together for these two, and other tracks have not stayed together so firmly. The kids ran the trains along these tracks happily without any issues of tracks breaking apart or trains getting stuck on the curves. I really like how the tracks are designed for going up and coming down the hills and around the curves. The sides allow for the trains to stay on the track and not fall off. TrackMaster engines are longer, and I was concerned that some of them (like Diesel 10) wouldn’t make the sharp turns, but each of them easily traveled the full track without falling off. I really like that each loop of the track ends with a switch track for easy expansion. As a mom that build tracks almost everyday, I can tell you that you can never have enough switch tracks, so it’s nice that this set includes two for easy connection to additional tracks. One thing to note is that these newer TrackMaster tracks are redesigned for better stability, but older TrackMaster tracks are not compatible with the current TrackMaster sets. After playing with The Over-Under Tidmouth Bridge, I really like the newer track style better because of the way it snaps together. The newer design allows the track to stay together even when it is bumped around by the kids as they play, and I feel like it also allows the trains to climb the hills more easily without getting stuck. Also, like I mentioned before, the track was literally hanging off the train table and the trains were still traveling on the loop without the track breaking. We even picked up the whole set and moved it to the floor without any tracks falling apart — which I have NEVER been able to do with any other train set! I recommend this more durable set to anyone with young children. My kids love playing with it, and they are excited to collect more new TrackMaster engines and expansion tracks.
