Описание к видео Musharraf in Paris on official tour

(4 Jul 2003)
SOUND QUALITY AS INCOMING
1. Wide shot of exterior of Hotel Crillon, zoom in to Pakistani flag
2. Cutaway of press conference
3. SOUNDBITE (English) Pervez Musharraf, Pakistani President
(Question on diplomatic relations with Israel)
"So all that I would like to say is that there is requirement at this moment for Pakistan because of this peace process which is moving ahead to analyse its relationship with Israel, and take and review it with national consensus in our
national interest."
4. Cutaway of press
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Pervez Musharraf, Pakistani President
(Question on diplomatic relations with Israel)
"I would say our decisions will be to quite an extend dependent on the progress of these peace initiatives that is already the progress towards the final conclusion, will really dictate to us our future stance."
6. Cutaway of press
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Pervez Musharraf, Pakistani president
(Question on Kashmir)
"Yes I do agree there is a step by step approach required but that doesn't mean that we should go slow, I mean what is step by step? Should we start talking? What is the step required in between talking and not talking. Is there any step required? I think we just have to take a decision - okay, let's talk and let's talk tomorrow."
8. Cutaway of press
9. SOUNDBITE (English) Pervez Musharraf, Pakistani President:
(Question on sending troops to Iraq)
"When I said we've agreed in principal and we are to still take a decision I meant yes, the financial part is one part, obviously Pakistan can not be expected to be financing such a large force which has been demanded. But however the more important part is the political issue, political environment, we would much prefer that there is a cover, maybe a United Nations cover or a YIC cover or even a GCC cover. And there are some additional countries, especially some Islamic countries coming in to contribute forces in Iraq. So these are the considerations that we are looking into."
10. Tilt up of press
11. SOUNDBITE (English) Pervez Musharraf, Pakistani President
(Question on Quetta attack)
"The information has reached you fast, I haven't analysed, I don't know the details of this explosion really and who has done it. Yes, I've always been saying that it is unfortunate that there are some elements in Pakistan who undermine whatever Pakistan stand for, whatever the vast majority stands for. It is always unfortunate that this small minority that I keep seeing are able to derail or undermine national feelings. I am very clear in my mind that the vast majority of the people of Pakistan certainly do not contribute to extremism and terrorism and fundamentalism."
12. Tilt down of exterior of Hotel Crillon

STORYLINE:

At a press conference in Paris on Friday, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf denounced the attack in the southwestern Pakistani town of Quetta where ten people were killed when an explosion shattered a Shiite Muslim mosque.

Musharraf said: "it is unfortunate that there are some elements in Pakistan who undermine whatever Pakistan stand for, whatever the vast majority stands for."

Musharraf also said that a relationship with Israel should be considered and be based on the progress of the peace initiatives currently underway.

On the issue of Iraq, Musharraf said Pakistan had agreed in principal to send troops to Iraq but would need financial support.

He added he would much prefer such a force to be operational under the cover of the United Nations.

Musharraf was in France on the final leg of his European and North American tour.
