Started by Belinda Pereira (known in the locality as Amma) on 15th November 2006, Karuna Ghar Foundation… an NGO, a small day care shelter for the underprivileged children around the Upvan area in Thane city opened up our eyes to the grim realities of life. Anju Agarwal is also a very active and strong functionary at Karuna Ghar Foundation. Initially struggling between a full time job at a call center and Karunaghar, ‘Amma’ began this endeavour with 2 children. Now the number of children at Karunaghar is a little over 25 including the orphan who lives in an ashram under Amma’s guidance and loving care. At Karunaghar kids of all ages are welcome, kids of all backgrounds, and even kids who have single parents. Amma was disturbed by the fact that children of single parents had to work like rag pickers and succumb to the wrath of their circumstances. Moulded by Amma’s guidance, care, patience and her ever loving attitude, she is truly ‘a mother’ to each of these children and they are her own. These children now lead a better life.
