Lillian Gish’s upcoming appearance in a TV play about the silent movie era (Philco Television Playhouse: The Birth of the Movies, 4/22/51) inspires Kukla, Fran and Ollie to stage their own version of a silent movie melodrama. Fran plays Dollie Lee, a young woman who’s come to the big city to stay with her Cousin Buelah while hoping for a life on the stage, and Ollie is Jack Dalton, the wicked garment factory owner who has designs on her.
