man that's wild the caption on this video is dumb criminals yeah man that's rough so here's the thing as a homeowner and as a citizen uh my first reaction is hell yeah you know you're trying to break into my house I'm going to I'm going to be shooting at you but legally speaking the question becomes in California are you allowed to shoot through your own door if someone's trying to break into your house so California does have something that's generally referred to as a castle doctrine so somebody's trying to break into your house you can presume that they're going to try to harm you that they're trying to hurt you and so you can use appropriate Force now the question is what did this homeowner know at the time that the homeowner decided to shoot through that door well for sure the homeowner knew that someone was trying to kick the door down cuz you can see it clearly on the video but ultimately is the lethal force that was used or the attempt of lethal force that was used is that legal I think it's going to be really hard for a prosecutor to convince a jury of 12 people that that shooting wasn't the right thing for that home order to do cuz can you imagine all those 12 jurors thinking what would I do if I was in that position it's a matter of policy and I think that that homeowner is likely going to be just all right
