DAY EIGHT – MPH Novena 2023: Fr. Ivel Mendanha, CSsR, reflects on “Jesus Divine and Human”

Amidst the background of Divine light and grace, Jesus the Way, the Truth and the Life is also a human being. His humanity was so very necessary for the salvation of human beings. The humanity of Jesus is portrayed therefore through the falling slipper and the underside of his foot. While Western art displays the humanity of Jesus in his bare body, the bare foot in Oriental art and in Icons points to the humanity of the Lord.
Jesus the Man clothed with Divinity aware of the mission to save the world through his life giving death on the cross has his eyes turned and fixed on the one who sent him on this mission, his Father. The father cannot be portrayed in an Icon and so the serene eyes of Jesus fixed on his Father finds strength and grace from the Spirit of his Father to carry out the mission entrusted to him.
Mary points us to Jesus who is the Way to the Father. The Way is the Way of Jesus, the Way of Love.
