Guangzhou's Flower, Bird, Fish, and Insect Market represents a vibrant and traditional aspect of the city's leisure culture, historically and most famously embodied by the former "Yuehe Flower, Bird, Fish & Aquarium World" (also known as the Fangcun Flower, Bird, Fish & Insect Market) located in Huadiwan, Liwan District. Since its opening in 2001, this market grew into a sprawling and comprehensive hub, recognized not only as one of the largest aquarium markets in Southern China and all of Asia, but also as a one-stop destination for everything from ornamental fish, flowers, and bonsai to birds, reptiles, cats, dogs, handicrafts, and gardening supplies, making it a collective memory for generations of Guangzhou residents and people from the wider Pearl River Delta.
