Shock moment 'bird strikes jet' before fireball explosion on deadly landing in South Korea

MYSTERY surrounds the cause of a South Korean plane crash that has left 179 people presumed dead.

A survivor has told rescuers smoke came from one engine before it exploded - with the pilot issuing a mayday call just a minute after.

"I would say that absolutely contravenes international standards to have that wall there, no question about it," aviation industry commentator Geoffrey Thomas said.
