I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I had the joy of driving the chevy 2500 with the 6.6L gas engine on the road and I wanted to really take a deeper dive into 2 complains about this engine. the power and the poor fuel economy.

first off is the power of this engine. personally I think this 6.6L gas engine has plenty of power and I really think the low end torque is fantastic. I did notice that the top end up power seems to be lacking a little but again this is not a performance engine so top end power is not really it's focus.

overall I don't think this engine is either slow or fast. I think the 6 speed transmission really hinders the feeling of speed. if this truck had the 10 speed it would make a large difference in the responsiveness!

as for fuel economy on the 6.6L gas L8T, It is pretty bad. at the end of my drive I was averaging around 10mpg without any load on the truck. to me that is pretty bad fuel mileage. The engine is pretty new and not broken in which will play in a factor in fuel economy but overall still pretty bad.

If you are truly worried about fuel economy I'd say maybe the 5.3 or the 6.2L would be a better option. If money is no worry then the 6.6L Duramax Diesel will be a much more efficient truck with tons more power.
