Even though opera is performed in other languages, Calgary Opera’s productions have super titles, which are just like subtitles, so you can stay in touch with the story as it is being told. Also, much like a movie trailer before you see a movie, you can watch scenes from the opera online or read the synopsis before you arrive, or at the performance. Opera singers are also trained actors, so even if you don’t read the super titles, or the synopsis, you can read their expressive facial expressions and body language.
