Trekking in India and Nepal | SANDAKPHU PHALUT Trek | Part - 7 | The World of Madhu Sharma

The Sandakphu Phalut trek is a 7-day trek in West Bengal. It is a very unique trek as you trek on the borders of India and Nepal. In fact, the trail crisscrosses through India and Nepal throughout the trek. It is the only trek in India from where you can see 4 of the world’s tallest mountains.

You stay in tea houses in most places, which is a distinct feature of trekking in Nepal. You also meet Nepali picnickers around Sandakphu.

Day 1 - The drive from Darjeeling to Sepi (base camp) is very a beautiful and thrilling drive on zig-zag roads through tea plantations.

Day 2 - The trek starts from the base camp Sepi Gaon (6286 ft). You come across many beautiful villages along the way until you reach the campsite Samanden (7590 ft). Samanden is a very picturesque village and here you spend the night in a tea house.

Day 3 - The trek from Samanden to Molley (11220 ft) is a very steep incline through bamboo forests and dense forests. This is the day you gain the highest amount of altitude on this trek.

Day 4 - This is the summit day. It is a very long day as you have to trek a total distance of 17 kms in a single day. You have to trek from Molley to Phalut (11811 ft) via Sabargram and return back to Sabargram which is also the campsite for the night. This is the day when you see the first sight of the mighty Kanchenjunga range also known as the Sleeping Buddha.

Day 5 - The trek from Sabargram to Sandakphu is through very beautiful meadows. You also come across Yaks grazing around. The campsite is in the village of Aal which lies on the borders of India and Nepal.

Day 6 - Early morning you can see one of the most beautiful sunrises and also the views of both the Mt. Everest and Kanchanjunga Ranges. The trek on this day is from Aal to Gurdum (7395 ft) via Sandakphu. Sandakphu (12950 ft) is the highest peak in West Bengal. On this day throughout the trail you can see the view of the Kanchanjunga range. The campsite is a very beautiful tea house in the village of Gurdum.

Day 7 - On the last day you trek from Gurdum back to the base camp in Sepi. The trek culminates here and you drive back to Darjeeling.
