Nyonya Embroidery Skills by Kim Kebaya Penang

Sulaman Kerawang or cut work embroidery is one of the everlasting and popular techniques. It is a fine needlework and its uniqueness lies in the clever use of assorted coloured threads. For one to begin the embroidery process, a suitable pattern is drawn onto the cloth's surface. More often than not, various plant and sometimes colourful bird motifs are used together or separately to form an exquisite and intricate patterns.
