Making Drumsticks Part 1- Processing the Wood

Many of you have asked me how I make my sticks. I have thought long and hard about sharing some of this since, after all, I am selling these sticks and running a small business. Like any craft you might partake in for financial gain I am a bit protective about my methods for making my sticks.
When I was first learning to do this I tried to get information from some unnamed sources and no one would talk to me about it. So I had to learn on my own which turned out to be the best thing for me since it resulted it some unique methods which continue to evolve.
I am a pretty open person when it comes to sharing my drumming and percussion techniques so I have decided to share a few things concerning stick making with those of you who might be interested in giving it a try.
Over the past 20 years I have refined my stick making techniques learning by trial and error (with an emphasis on error). Working with wood has always been a passion of mine but it can be very dangerous so please heed my safety instructions during these videos.
