Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways

In this compilation video we review The North Yorkshire Moors Railway's Southern Railway Schools class 4-4-0 926 Repton named after the school in Derbyshire.

This video is dedicated in memory Stuart Dennis 1 of the longest serving volunteers of The North Yorkshire Moors Railway in Grosmont Motive Power Depot who sadly past away a week after this video was made.

My thoughts & condolences goes out to his family, friends & everyone at The North Yorkshire Moors Railway at this very difficult time.

926 Repton was built by The Southern Railway at Eastleigh Works in May 1934.

He spent much of his working life on coastal services while being sheded at Bournemouth, Fratton in Portsmouth & Ramsgate & also being based a few times at Stewarts Lane depot.

926 Repton was the last member of the class to have a heavy general overhaul in 1960 but was withdrawn just 2 years later in 1962 after a working life of 28 years for The Southern Railway & British Railways.

4 years after being withdrawal by British Rail Repton was saved for preservation & restored to his pre-nationalization guise in Southern Olive Green Livery in 1966 & became the most famous of the schools class. Repton was exported to America in 1967 & was based at The Steamtown Museum Vermont & was loaned out to operate at The Cape Breton Steam Railway in Canada till 1979.

In 1989 926 Repton was repatriated back to the UK after being bought by Clifford Brown & in his will donated the engine to The North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

The engine returned to steam in 1990 & was restored in BR Express Passenger lined green livery & number 30926 & visited other heritage railways including The Great Central Railway in 1991.

The engine was withdrawn from service in 2010 which is how I 1st saw Repton while being in storage awaiting his turn to be overhauled.

It wasn't till 2014 when Repton's overhaul began & 3 years later Repton returned to steam in his pre-nationalization guise as 926 in Southern Olive Green livery in the summer 2017 for the 1st time since being repatriated from America in the 1980's.

My 1st filming encounter of Repton was while the engine was visiting The Severn Valley Railway during the 2017 Autumn Steam Gala celebrating 50 years since the end of regular Southern Steam in July 1967.

Our 1st filming of Repton on home ground on The North Yorkshire Moors Railway came during the engine's 1st full season in traffic during 2018 following completion of the loco's overhaul to mainline standards to work into Whitby.

We feature both on board & from the lineside from Whitby to the summit at Moorgates during 2018 including double heading with Battle of Britain Society's bulleid pacific 34081 92 Squadron.

As many have seen in the media 926 Repton became the 1st loco to be tested between Grosmont & Goathland since the UK went into Lockdown on March 23rd.

Due to the coronavirus over the last several months The North Yorkshire Moors Railway along with many others across the UK had suffered heavily loss of ticket revenue & cancellations of popular events such as their wartime weekends that take place in mid October every year because of the UK Government's guidelines such as social distancing to tackle the cornavirus.

The heritage lines including the NYMR could face an 18 month winter. But now many heritage railways are hoping to reopen from July onwards to passenger traffic with specific rules in place.

Despite this the NYMR needs your support to enable them to survive the pandemic & to ensure that there will be a heritage steam service across the North Yorkshire Moors for future generations.
