Halo-Gravity Traction for Pediatric Scoliosis and Kyphosis

Описание к видео Halo-Gravity Traction for Pediatric Scoliosis and Kyphosis

Halo-gravity traction can provide relief for early onset scoliosis and kyphosis in children. Although it doesn’t fully correct these conditions, halo-gravity traction can delay the need for pediatric scoliosis surgery.

This treatment works by attaching a horseshoe-shaped ring onto the child’s skull, which then connects to a traction system that gently pulls the child’s head and spine upward. While placing the screws that hold the ring in place can cause discomfort, most children have no pain with halo-gravity traction. The stretch of their spine can actually ease symptoms, in addition to potentially delaying surgery.

Throughout treatment, we add weight to the traction system to further stretch the spine, using a novel spring-based system unique to Children's Colorado’s Spine Program. We usually add 2 to 3 pounds at a time until we meet half the child’s bodyweight. Often, children can go home after they meet their goal weight, but each child spends a different amount of time in the halo.
