Conducting a literature review – searching the published research for all the relevant information on a specific topic – is one of the most challenging parts of research. How do we know where to search? How do we find the best and most impactful research? How do we know when we’ve found enough information? This workshop discusses specific techniques for conducting a literature review in the sciences disciplines.

Bios:

Ed Eckel has been the engineering librarian at WMU since 2006. Previously he worked at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, and at Delaware County Community College in Media PA. He has an MLIS from Drexel University in Philadelphia. He has been teaching these workshops for 5 years. He is fascinated by how researchers keep track of sources, and synthesize those sources to create new knowledge.

Carrie Leatherman has been the natural science librarian at WMU since 2008. She has a MLIS from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and a B.S. in zoology from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She enjoys both the ‘thrill of the hunt” when doing an in-depth lit review and helping students develop a plan for their own lit reviews.
