UTC Lira to become a center of excellence for road works

14 billion shillings has been injected at Uganda Technical College Lira for road equipment supply and infrastructural development of the institution.
Speaking during the on-spot visit to the site, State minister for sports Denis Hamson Obua said the investment is to turn the institution into a center of excellence on road construction.
Obua who also monitored construction at Lango College noted that the ministry has a plan to rehabilitate all the traditional schools in country.

Under Uganda Skills Development Project, Uganda technical college lira received 14 billion shillings.
The initiative by government of Uganda in partnership with World Bank is to turn the institution into a center of excellence on road construction.
The infrastructural development includes material testing laboratory, administration block, both girls and boys hostels, staff house and road equipment already delivered to the institution pending commissioning.
The deputy principal UTC lira Elvis Bongo explained that the equipment will also be used to maintain local government roads to generate revenue for its maintainance.

After UTC lira Obua proceeded to check on the delayed works at Lango Colleg.
Here 412m was given to construct 5 classrooms and rehabilitation of Cohen dormitory, one of the traditional dormitories with a bed capacity of 250.
The head teacher Lango College Sammy Bob Okino said the new curriculum requires a lot of space and when the classrooms are completed will facilitate proper learning.
Lango college currently has 1,005 students in both O and A’ levels.
After engaging the contractor, Obua said most traditional schools are in very bad shape and ones the required funds are availed, the ministry will vigorously embark on rehabilitating the ramshackle traditional schools.
