Haïm Brezis " Henri Poincaré, a founding father of the modern theory of PDEs"

Résumé
I will discuss some contributions of Henri Poincaré which have had a major impact on the development of PDEs in the 20th century; in particular, the solution of the Laplace equation and some nonlinear problems associated with the Laplacian, the spectral theory of the Laplacian, and much more.

Haïm Brézis est né en 1944. Il obtient son doctorat en 1971 et depuis 1972 il est professeur émérite à l'université Pierre et Marie Curie depuis 1972.

Haïm Brézis s'est consacré à l'analyse fonctionnelle non linéaire et aux équations aux dérivées partielles, en particulier aux problèmes issus de la géométrie (conjecture de Rellich sur les surfaces à courbure moyenne constante) et de la physique (cristaux liquides, vorticité dans les supraconducteurs).
