"We started working with cherry tomatoes 12 years ago, the red variety to begin with. As time went on we tried to diversify this variety constantly, through colour and shape, and gradually, increasing the size of the company, through the various varieties that we produced, and following last year’s expansion, the project turned in the direction of a technology that could select and facilitate our entire greenhouse production business.
So after carrying out some research, through various trade shows and with all possible means of communication for seeking and finding producers of technology able to meet our needs, we turned to Unitec quite naturally in the end. With the new technology that Unitec developed for us, we achieved our first objective in the greenhouse. The greenhouse harvesting staff have been helped greatly. Each worker has a single objective: harvest when the colour is right, without worrying whether the tomato is too big or too small. We haven’t reduced the number of staff, just redistributed them.
Thanks to the new Unitec technology, workers who previously had to deal with the fatigue of harvesting all day now have it easier because they don’t need to concern themselves with the size of the produce. This is possible because we have a technology that can separate the various sizes. That was the first reason that led us towards Unitec. Once the product comes off the sorter, there’s uniform colour and size selection. Thanks to Unitec software you can do everything you want.
It’s all very flexible, with 100% product uniformity, whether it’s loose or in punnets. Now we can meet any of our customers’ needs; thanks to Unitec technology we can meet all kinds of requirements. And that’s the second big reason that led us in the direction of Unitec. It all went smoothly from the beginning: we set to work with a valid system to suit our requirements.
From design to production and from installation to assistance, we have no reason for any dissatisfaction, because everything went right, from A to Z. We’re truly satisfied with the service provided, from the initial draft design to this moment. Today we can say that Unitec takes care of the line and supports us from a technical perspective, whether it’s maintenance or any development of the system.
“We’re not trapped in a cage”: there’s a continuous exchange to improve the technology. It’s something absolutely new. Being directly in contact with Unitec lets us work in complete harmony. As far as packing is concerned, we successfully optimise the uniformity of the produce and really guarantee the desired weight. This means less waste, including waste of the produce itself. So far, I think the machine we installed is something complete. For the future, we’ve already started working together with Unitec on quality selection."
