One of the benefits of PDA membership is a comprehensive professional indemnity insurance scheme. Members have told us that recently they have received emails about different ‘cheaper’ indemnity insurance schemes from other providers.

After analysing what is being offered, we are aware that it involves what is known as a ‘contingent indemnity’ scheme. This has been portrayed as a comprehensive form of indemnity, whereas in fact this type of arrangement may expose pharmacists to even greater risks.

Furthermore, unlike the indemnity provided via PDA membership, a Contingent Indemnity insurance scheme, does not automatically satisfy the GPhC requirement to practice with the protection of indemnity insurance.

Insurance can be a complex matter and to help you to understand the risks associated with ‘contingent indemnity’ and to contrast it with the indemnity that comes with PDA membership, for your convenience, we have produced a short video.
