After the initial success of their 1979 underground hit "Dangerous," the C-Walkers found themselves in a tough spot when their leader, Leon "LD" Danger, was arrested following several shootouts. With Leon facing six months behind bars on aggravated assault charges, the group was forced to cancel numerous shows, missing out on potential earnings and leaving the band in limbo.

In Leon's absence, his younger brother and fellow bandmate, Deon "Double D" Danger, stepped up to keep the group's momentum going. Determined to keep the C-Walkers' spirits high, Deon took the lead and covered "Dangerous," infusing it with new energy. The reworked version, known as the "Double-D" version, featured a more funky, fast-paced bassline provided by Bobby "Boogieman" Brown, along with smooth harmonies from Deon and the rest of the group.

The "Double-D" version of "Dangerous" quickly gained traction, charting well on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaking at #25. This success allowed the C-Walkers to continue touring and fulfill their obligations, ensuring they didn't lose out on revenue during Leon's absence. Fans of the band were already familiar with Deon, who had joined the group a year prior, and the transition without Leon was made smoother thanks to his presence.

The Deon "Double-D" version became a street hit in its own right, solidifying the C-Walkers' reputation for delivering the "Crip Funk" that their fans loved. It set the stage for the band's continued success, keeping their legacy alive until Leon's triumphant return.
