Shirley Bassey recorded a wonderful album in 1962 simply titled, "Shirley Bassey" and included in this clip are two songs from that LP. I purchased this album, which was my first Bassey record, nearly ten years after it originally was released and I became a fan instantly.

The first song is well known and it's titled "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing", and it was the theme song to the 1955 movie of the same name. This song won the Academy Award for 'Best Original Song.'

The second song is a smooth jazz tune titled, "'Angel Eyes". It is a 1946 popular song composed by Matt Dennis, with lyrics by Earl K. Brent. It was introduced in the 1953 film Jennifer. In the film, Matt Dennis sings the song and accompanies himself on piano, while Ida Lupino and Howard Duff among others are dancing to it. "Angel Eyes" is a jazz standard which has inspired many interpretations. Singers who have recorded notable versions of the song include Nat King Cole (already in 1953), Frank Sinatra, June Christy with Stan Kenton, Chet Baker and Shirley Bassey. Ella Fitzgerald, who recorded "Angel Eyes" at least four times, named it her favorite song.

ABOUT the 1962 Album titled, "Shirley Bassey":
"Shirley Bassey" is a 1962 album by Shirley Bassey, her fifth studio album and her third with EMI/Columbia. Bassey was accompanied by Geoff Love and his orchestra and The Williams Singers (The Rita Williams Singers). The album spent eleven weeks on the charts, beginning in February 1962, and peaking at #14. Shirley's good friend and the songwriter, Norman Newell, who wrote many of her hits over the decades produced this album.
