《古槐寻根》即为赵季平先生在山西“采风”时，对当地民间音乐《送樱桃》产生了深刻的印象，并把它的曲调改编成立《古槐寻根》快板部分的主题。引子与慢板乐曲的慢板完全由拉弦乐器进行叙事性陈述，宁静、徐缓又漫长，却能让人听的入神。快板中，作者融入了晋中秧歌的旋律，饱含浓郁的乡土风味儿却丝毫不显俗套，刻画了游子返乡的欢乐场景。尾声胡琴慢板的主旋律再次登场，再现第一部分的主题，与引子相呼应，最终在锣鼓敲打声中渐行渐远。

“Follow The Pagoda Tree To Get The Root Of Our Ancestor” was inspired by Mr Zhao Jiping’s deep impression of the local folk music “Sending Cherries” during his field trip to Shanxi. He adapted its melody into the fast-paced theme of the song. The intro and slow movement of the piece are entirely narrated by string instruments, tranquil, slow, and prolonged, yet captivating to the listener. In the fast-paced section, the author incorporates the melody of the Jinzhong Yangge, rich in local flavor depicting the joyous scene of a wanderer returning home. The main melody of the huqin slow movement reappears in the finale, echoing the first part’s theme, gradually fading away amidst the sound of gongs and drums.
