The Castle King Ludwig II grew up in and spend his childhood at is named Hohenschwangau Castle (Schloss Hohenschwangau). It is nearby Neuschwanstein Castle, (the Castle Ludwig II would build as an adult). But Never Finished. known as "the Disney Castle"
It is in Southern Germany, Munich, Bavaria.
It is a Major Tourist Attraction.

The two Castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are walking distance to one another.
You can Hike to Hohenschwangau in about 20 minutes.
You can Hike to Neuschwanstein from Hohenschwangau in about 40 minutes.
They Do Not allow filming inside for the most part of either Castle.

Hohenschwangau Castle was Ludwig II's father Maximilian II of Bavaria Castle.
Maximilian II discovered it and loved the surroundings so decided to rebuild it and make it his own.
Maximilian II was King of Bavaria 1848 to 1864. His father was Ludwig I, "King Max".
Maximilian II was born on November 28, 1811, and was married to Marie of Prussia.

Hohenschwangau Castle is located at the end of The Romantic Road (Romantische Strasse).

King Ludwig was nicknamed "The Mad King" and "The Swan King" because of his lavish over the top, Fantasy Palaces and Spending. King Ludwig II had a desire for Fantasy/Fairy tales/theater.
He dreamed of living a "real" Fairy tale life as a child.
King Ludwig II is known for Neuschwanstein Castle, Linderhof Palace, and Herrenchiemsee.
Ludwig was imprisoned later in his life and the day after while out on a walk with his doctor (Gudden) he was found dead along with Dr. Giddens which declared him mad. The death remained a mystery.
