Bay Of Islands, New Zealand - Travel Guide

Описание к видео Bay Of Islands, New Zealand - Travel Guide

Bay of Islands is one of the most culturally significant locations in New Zealand because it's where New Zealand's founding document the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the Maori Chiefs and the British Crown. On this episode we show you around some of the top places to visit and where to eat at in the Bay of Islands.

This episode starts with some scenic views of the Bay of Islands. We experience a bird's eye view of the area with Flying Kiwi Parasail aka Bay of Islands Parasail. They have New Zealand's highest parasail at 1300ft.

Next up we visit a place that every Kiwi should go to at some point, the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, where we pay tribute to the birth location of our nation New Zealand. Here at the Treaty of Waitangi Grounds we got a guided tour of the grounds, a history lesson, got to see and learn about the world's largest waka taua (war canoe) and then experience an incredibly powerful and moving Maori cultural performance.

Big thank you to the folks from the Treaty of Waitangi Grounds for allowing us to film the performance (you need to get special permission to) and also special shout out to Waima and the crew for the amazing show! You guys are so wonderfully talented, it was a real honor to watch your performance and it was so awesome that Peter got picked to play the role of Chief! :)

You can get your day pass to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds by booking online here:

26 December to 29 February: 9am to 6pm
1 March to 24 December: 9am to 5pm
On 6 February each year (Waitangi Day), Waitangi Treaty Grounds closes its buildings for the day and the grounds become the location of a free festival for the public to enjoy.

With both activities behind us it is time to get some food. We found some amazing wood fired pizzas at Charlotte's Kitchen. Not to mention some great views of the Bay of Islands from there too.

Hours - Monday - Sunday 8:30am–11pm

After that we headed over to the former capital of New Zealand, Russell or otherwise known as Kororāreka (and also Okiato). There was a special hotel that we've wanted to stay at for a very long time - The Duke of Marlborough. Here at The Duke Of Marlborough Hotel, we also enjoyed a delicious meal with rustic hearty flavours.
