Описание к видео 347. Bingley Five Rise - The Steepest Locks Ever

Bingley Five Rise Staircase Locks are a magnificent feat of engineering and one of the seven Wonders of the Waterways, situated in the Aire Valley on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. They opened on 21st March 1774 and are the steepest flight of locks in the UK with a gradient of about 1 in 5, having a rise or fall of 59ft 2 inches (18.03m) over a distance of 320ft (98m). Please take a look to find out more about these Grade 1 Listed locks and their history.

Many thinks to Gary and Nicky of NB Chugabug for use of their footage during their recent ascent. See Gary Captain Phillips You Tube channel:    • Bingley 3 & 5 Rises
