Reproductive system in Herdmania

Herdmania is hermaphrodite or bisexual but protogynous so that self fertilization is ruled out. there are two large gonads embedded in the mantle and bulging into the atrial cavity. the right gonads is situated just parallel and dorsal to pericardium, while the left gonad lies with in the intestinal loop.
Each gonad is an elongate, lobulated and hermaphroditic gland measuring 3 to 4 cm long, 1 cm wide and 2 to 3 cm thick. There are 10 to 25 distinct oval or rounded lobes, arranged in two rows one on either side of a central axis. The median lobe present at the proximal end is the largest, unpaired and bean shaped.

Each lobe is made of a large, brick red, cortical or outer testicular region and a smaller, pinkish inner ovarian region.
