Restoring a vintage toy piano

Описание к видео Restoring a vintage toy piano

In which I restore an unknown brand toy piano back to shape.

I bought this toy piano from a well-known toy piano collector. He mentioned that the felts needed to be replace and provided me with two sets of piano felt free of charge. When I opened the piano up I saw that it was also in horrible state of rust. So I got to cleaning it using Ballistol gun oil and replaced the felts, as well as making adjustments to the travel of the hammer. In the end, it took me about three hours from start to finish. I tried the least abrasive methods to get rid of rust and experimented with making the action as quiet as possible.

The brand of the instrument is unknown - it has the high-quality tines of the Michelsonne brand and is still very much in tune as far as these things go, but the mechanics and build are more like a high-end Goldon. The color is probably not original, looks like it was painted on thickly. To me its seems like the handywork of a theatre in its roughness and "we only do the front-facing stuff nicely" style.
