This generation of gaming has been one of the most disappointing and uninspired ones yet. We're five years into the lifecycle of the so-called "NEXT" generation of consoles—PS5 and Xbox Series X—and there’s still barely any games that truly push these machines to their limits.

Remember when the original PS5 box proudly advertised 120Hz and 8K support? That marketing made it seem like we were stepping into a new era of gaming where graphical fidelity would be groundbreaking and frame rates buttery smooth. In reality, though, these consoles have massively overpromised and underdelivered. From remasters and remakes to AI upscaling tricks like DLSS, many games aren’t even offering a true 4K gaming experience. You'd expect that after this much time, developers would harness the full power of the hardware, yet somehow we’re still playing titles at 1080p—on machines that were supposed to revolutionize gaming.

Let’s talk about availability. Both the Xbox Series X and PS5 launched with serious stock shortages, forcing many gamers to either wait for months or pay absurd scalper prices, sometimes double what the consoles actually cost. And if that wasn’t bad enough, gaming prices skyrocketed from $60 to $80 in a single generation—but for what? A flood of remakes and remasters. Take the GTA Trilogy remaster, for instance. Its “updates” consisted of little more than improved textures and lighting tweaks, yet it retailed at $60. Why would anyone pay for something that barely looks better than an emulated version?

And then there's the real slap in the face—performance. Red Dead Redemption 2, one of the best games of all time, still runs at 30FPS on console. Where’s the glorious 8K 120Hz experience that was promised? Nowhere to be found.

To make matters worse, the Xbox Series S had a price increase recently, despite being the weaker console of the two. And honestly? That’s just another reason never to buy these consoles again. If you want real power, real performance, and actual gaming freedom, just get a PC instead.
