PROGRAM NOTE:
WELCOME TO CMW’S SEASON 25!
CMW opens our 25th season with a celebratory concert that centers around the concept of variation, reflecting the way CMW’s work grows out of a consistent mission that takes on new forms each year.
We are revisiting highlight moments from composer commissions throughout the season, starting with the Kompa Variations by Daniel Bernard Roumain, which CMW premiered in 2008. This piece was written for our professional quartet side-by-side with a youth quartet, and this time the ensemble will include alumni, current students, fellows, and core musicians.
The Clarice Assad piece Impressions begins with a theme and variations that introduce the personalities of the sections of the MusicWorks Collective ensemble, and the Handel - Halvorsen Passacaglia features a whiz bang set of variations, showing off the virtuosity of the violin and cello. The program opens with the tender and lush harmonies of the Handel B flat Concerto Grosso, which sets the stage for joyous music-making in this concert and throughout this celebratory season.
