Breaking The Mold | Mikayla Davic | TEDxBaldwinHighSchool

In modern society, girls feel a pressure like none other to fit in, from fitting in with the popular crowd to fitting into size zero skinny jeans. Lots of teens are consumed by the one question that will drive you mad: "What do I need to do to get them to like me?" Mikayla has personal experience in feeling like she does not fit in. She has found herself looking in the mirror, searching for the flaws instead of the beauties. It's taken time, but she has learned that beauty standards have no value and that each person must live up to their own standard to ever feel like they belong. She would like to encourage others to find confidence in who they are and to dare to break the mold.

Mikayla is a sophomore at Baldwin High School with a desire to help others. She runs an organization called Mik's Wish in which she has written three original musicals to fundraise money for Make-A-Wish. She has raised over $27,000 with a goal of $50,000 by the time she graduates. In Mikayla's free time, she writes and participates in the fall play and spring musical at school. She wishes to study film after she graduates and become a screenwriter.
