Communication boards are boards with symbols or pictures that are used to aid children who have limited expressive language ability. Children communicate using the board by pointing and gesturing or gazing at the various symbols and pictures.

At its simplest, a communication board can simply consist of a yes/no board or a pencil and piece of paper. The main goal is allowing the child to communicate her needs.

Creating and learning on a paper version of a communication tool is a fantastic way to learn how to use this type of device before investing into high tech usually more expensive versions.
