They are in order by surface area:
Lake Superior the largest freshwater Lake in the world
Lake Huron the the fourth largest lake in the world
Lake Michigan the fifth largest lake in the world
Lake Erie the 11th largest lake in the world
Lake Ontario the 13th largest lake in the world

Cool, huh?

And Beowulf has swam in all of them. He just loves swimming. He's been a natural swimmer since he was a puppy. His very first summer alive he was swimming in a pool.

Lake Erie is one of our favorites, because it's so close. We love seeing Lake Erie.

But all the Great Lakes are beautiful in their own way. Lake Ontario was the calmest. Lake Erie always looks angry. Lake Superior was calmer than I thought it'd be. Lake Huron is often referred too as "The forgotten Great Lake," because it gets less tourism and visitors than the other lakes but I don't know why. Lake Huron is gorgeous and has beautiful sandy beaches with nice clean water just like the other Great Lakes. And of course Lake Michigan is the jewel of the Midwest.

If you want to visit all the lakes:
Sandusky, OH for Lake Erie.
Saugatuck, MI for Lake MI
Grand Marais, MI for Lake Superior
East Tawas, MI for Lake Huron
Youngstown, NY for Lake Ontario.

Fair warning, Great Lakes Swimming rules do vary by state. OH and MI are easy, there's no lifeguards in these states. As long as a beach is open, you can swim there. Pennsylvania and New York have weird rules requiring a life guard be present for people to swim, but dogs can't swim when a lifeguard is present. I understand lifeguards are probably safer, but I don't think it should be illegal to the point of people being arrested in NY to swim at a public place when a lifeguard isn't present.

I have no clue what Canada's rules are for swimming I. the Great Lakes. I'd look it up though before you go if you plan on being on a beach in Canada.
